What Melissa likes

Filed under: Welcome — melissasheard @ 7:48 pm

Hi, I’m Melissa, Jack’s wife, and I love to read.  I actually started Jack reading after we were married.  I joke with him that he had never read a book until we were married!!  I tend to enjoy mysteries, but have read some other genres of books that have really surprised me in how much I enjoyed them.  My biggest surprise was Harry Potter.  After watching the first movie, I decided to give them a shot, and I was pleasantly surprised with how much I truly enjoyed them.  They are now one of my favorite series.

I enjoy many of the same authors as Jack (I introduced him to most of them), but also enjoy Sue Grafton, Janet Evanovich, Iris Johansen, even the occasional Nicholas Sparks book.  I’m sure I have other authors that I am forgetting about at the moment, but will remember later.

My favorite series are the Myron Bolitar series (Harlan Coben), the Stephanie Plum series(Janet Evanovich), the ABC mysteries (Sue Grafton).  I enjoy the long series, as I hate to get into a great series, and discover that I’m on book 2.  The Sue Grafton books are 1 book for every letter of the alphabet and she’s already on letter “U”, so it’s a great series to start if you enjoy the long series with one character throughout.

Recently finished books: Ford County by John Grisham, Blood Game by Iris Johansen, Sundays at Tiffanys by James Patterson, and My Sisters Keeper by Jodi Piccoult

On deck: The Time Travelers Wife (never saw the movie, but heard it was good) and I’m thinking of re-reading the Dan Brown books.

I enjoy a variety of books, but mostly mystery and thriller books.  I also like to re-read series that I have enjoyed.  I hate hearing about new books by my favorite authors, so I usually rush out and buy the hardbacks in the first week.  I am fairly willing to try new authors and books, so I am looking forward to finding some new authors to add to my collection.

  1. Hi! I’m Gina.(Jack’s childhood friend) Nice to “meet” you. It is true I never saw Jack as a child read a book. Ever… lol

I like a few of the same writers as you do. I also plan on reading The Time Travelers Wife then watching the movie. Though movies are always a let down after the books. Next on my list is Julie and Julia because I loved the movie.

Can’t wait to see more of your reviews.

  2. I am an old friend of Kathy’s. Jack and my daughter Kendra went to school together. I also LOVE to read. I recently read a book that was neither romance nor a mystery. The book is called “A Year On Ladybug Farm” by Donna Ball. I LOVED IT! You laugh and you cry! I have read it twice. Then I rend “At Home on Ladybug Farm”. Again, tears and laughter and read it twice. Try it! Hope you enjoy it as much as I did.
